What to do on cleanup days

Notes for Volunteers on Cleanup Day

Cleanups begin at any major beach approach (Seaview, Sid Snyder, Bolstad, Cranberry, Klipsan, Ocean Park, Oysterville Rd.) at 9:30 am and generally finish around 11:30–12.

The Beach Approach Coordinator will give you some cleaning supplies and direction on where we need the most help today – just ask them where to start cleaning when you sign in.

Litter to collect.
  1. ALL PLASTICS
  2. ALL GLASS
  3. ALL METAL
  4. Waxed cardboard.
  5. All ‘spent’ fireworks parts.
  6. Wood pieces with nails or any other sharp objects.
  7. Rope
  8. You will see a variety of things, you’ll know if its garbage.

Things to leave:

  1. "Clean’ wood, without nails or sharp objects, can be left. It will soon become firewood on this beach.
  2. Dead birds, they are monitored by COASST volunteers.

Protect Yourselves:

Please protect yourself. It’s a good idea to wear protective gloves, a protective hat or rain gear depending on the weather.

Cleanup:

Bring your filled bags to where the Approach Coordinator is, or leave at the high tide mark for trucks to haul in. Be sure not to fill the bags so that they are too heavy – we don’t want anyone hurting their backs. You may run across items that are too large or heavy to move, please make the Approach Coordinator aware of the item and its location so they can work to have it removed.

After Cleanup:

Give your cleaning supplies back to your Beach Approach Coordinator and PLEASE come enjoy the chowder feed (we’ll have other soup too) at the Senior Center in Klipsan Beach. It should run from about 11:30 am to 1:30pm.

Afterwards, all the volunteers meet at the Senior Center in Klipsan Beach for a free chowder/soup feed. Please join us.

Long Beach Coffee Roasters encourages all beach cleanup volunteers to stop in for free cup of drip coffee on cleanup day.

THANKS for being a part of the solution – you’re the BEST!
